You were born the 3rd son of Filric and Jana Goodsmith in a small town in the Incentive Lands, nine months after the inauguration of High Lord Ivellion. Your family was prosperous and you were well educated until a plague swept through your village and killed one out of every 3 people. Your family was especially hard hit with only yourself, your mother, and Taja (one of your younger sisters) surviving. After selling everything at abysmal prices your mother moved you all to a larger town to try to make a new life for you. After the money ran out and with no job in sight, you mother resorted to harlotry to keep you and your sister fed and clothed. She simply never returned one night when you were 11 and your sister was 5, 2 years after the plague. You stole to live while trying to keep your sister from your mother’s fate. You had a talent for it, and became good enough that you were able to buy your sister an apprenticeship to a local seamstress. Three years later, Taya arranged her marriage to her teacher’s son, Dauzo (a tanner), herself. While trying to get your sister an extravagant wedding present you were caught and sentenced to two years at the Keep. You never made the wedding, and Dauzo holds the pain this caused your sister against you to this day. They have built a happy, comfortable life for themselves and constantly urge you to make a respectable name for yourself. While at the Keep you got to know Tarvin, and you two hit it off right away. Your sentence at the Keep gave you the opportunity to pursue a new career: soldier. Although you excelled at the practical aspects (fighting), the subtler aspects gave you problems (officers). By the time you realized this you had already left the Keep and began a tour at the Fort. The officers hated you, but knew that the other soldiers generally like you so they were overjoyed when the adventurers showed to take you away.
