The Basin has a government much like a traditional farmer’s co-op with a strong mandate to protect the land. Their land is composed of floodplains and marshes. The current Steinkel government has fallen from its lofty past and corruption is now common. The stewardship of the land is one of the few traditions that remain, but it is also the justification used for most corrupt policies (farm seizures, high taxes, etc.). The economy is still almost entirely based upon farming, and the people are predominantly human. They are generally considered a quaint, even backwards people by the rest of Asgrim. The Steinkel military is widely disdained, although even their worst critic admits they make excellent use of trained animals and have an intimate knowledge of their own lands.
