(Actually Roscoe Underbough). A tall halfling with a goatee. As a child, he was lost in a dangerous land. He was rescued by Unseelie Fey at his parents' request, but in rescuing him they struck a bargain. Afterwards, Roscoe discovered that he
had strange abilities. He tried to do good and learn how to use these powers, like the sorcerers and wizards he had heard about in stories. However, he seemed to have no talent for either formal wizardry or sorcery when he investigated both (although he was sometimes able to use magic items, this was dismissed as irrelevant, as rogues and bards often had similar abilities). And in his dreams he hears and sees things that disturb him greatly. Powerful beings, using magic like he has, but for evil purposes! He sometimes feels strange compulsions, which he often resists (he always resists urges to do evil) but sometimes, in order to keep them quiet for a while, does not. Thus, when the urges are not to do evil, then he is more likely to compromise. One result of these dreams is that he has collected many holy symbols of various non-evil deities, to try to ward off any troubles. His determination to resist these inner voices has focused his will, so that he can concentrate on the task at hand and ignore the voices' urgings. However, his fear that he might lose control (or that his presence might draw unwelcome attention) has caused him to leave his family and friends behind, a pattern that repeats itself when the dreams get too strong (since he believes that they might also be a sign that he is being tracked by a powerful Unseelie fey that he met once and who seems to be the source of his strange abilities). He has left the party for this reason. Confused but still determined, he is trying to make the best of things. What else would a good halfling do?

He has donated 10 000gp worth of diamonds and 1 000 gp to the local temple of Pelor so that they will raise him from the dead the next two times he needs it (assume 9th or 10th lvl cleric). He is not that certain as to the status of his soul, so wants to find ways to keep it in his body as much as possible!

Roscoe is trying to figure out how to become untracable by any means. Thus he changed his name to Topaz, and will likely continue this practice.

Roscoe tends to act without thinking, relying upon his ability to teleport a short distance (while leaving a short-term illusion behind) to get out of trouble, or else using an blast of eldritch energy against likely foes. This impulsiveness has sometimes been the despair of his companions. He is also on the lookout for loot, to which end he uses his continual ability to see invisible things and detect magic. However, underneath it all he has a good heart.

Seeking the Spire

After dealing with havoc of chasing down [[The Redhead]] and [[The Bard]] back to our home, we find that [[Ivan]] has appeared and wants us to follow him back home to boss, aka [[Nikolai]]. 

After dealing with [[Nasar]]'s first Full Moon after the werewolf bite, the gang heads up to the mine. The next day we go in and find that [[Nikolai]] has gone down in the cage and asked for something. After he comes to, we find out that there is a Quest he has undertaken for his Lady. Millain goes back to get approval from [[Lady Naomi]] for us to join the quest, and soon we're on our way.

I'm going to shorten this up for a bit, but it needs fleshing out.

Nasar gets hurt the next moon due to a silver shackle. We meet up with [[Falan]]. We go to the capitol? of [[Grendalli]] and meet up with [[Agatha]] who cures [[Nasar]] of the curse of Lycanthropy. She gives us a teleportation beacon for us to place on the site of the quest after we are done.

We head on, joining a food caravan, and head to the last big city before [[The Keep]], staying there to pickup some winter clothes and supplies before heading on. [[Dera]] makes some items cold-resistant.

Next Session should be heading to and arriving at [[The Keep]].

The Keep was built almost 350 years ago after an army, formed from 17 disparate forces and led by a charismatic human monk, reclaimed the pass from a powerful Orc tribe that had held it for almost 50 years. The leaders of the 17 component forces became the founders of the 17 noble houses of this land, and the monk founded the royal dynasty. The system of government was one of order and predictability. After 50 years of chaos the people welcomed it. The need to maintain the Keep is a focus of the laws of the region to this day. Most serious (and many minor) criminal offences result in conscription into service at the Keep (usually on the most dangerous patrols). Conscription into the Keep guard is also the price for failure to pay many debts, although these conscripts face kinder duties while their pay goes to offset their debt. Regardless of the reason for their conscription, all conscripts live as well-kept slaves and their mobility is restricted. An extensive system of quotas, protocols, and procedures run most aspects of the Keep and much of life in this region. This system is beginning to weaken, however. The 17 noble houses have been using their prerogative to work around many royal decrees and are applying extensive pressure for more freedom and autonomy. The royal house recognizes that the world has changed but doesn’t want to become a figurehead. They also know that the danger from the lands beyond the Keep, commonly called the Orc lands because of the large numbers of Orc tribes, has not fully passed.

The primary lands of the Royal House of Asgrim surround the Lake of Contemplation and the Keep of Asgrim. They also control monasteries in key strategic locations within every noble land. The Asgrim government is a strict bureaucracy, and all positions of power are reserved for those with monk training. The chief exports of Asgrim are government, law, and contemplative education. The House of Asgrim also runs an extensive network of orphanages, many near their monasteries. Lemoda was groomed for leadership from the day she was borne. She is very professional and focused. The people of Asgrim are generally content with their safe, predictable lives. Lemoda is struggling to hold the kingdom together. She is painfully aware of the internal tensions that are bubbling to the surface and are actively trying to smooth things over. The noble house they are on the best terms with is the House of Farah. Asgrim has an extensive military drawn from their orphanages, noted for their fierce loyalty. They also have an elite strike force composed primarily of monks that answers directly to the current Monarch.

The Basin has a government much like a traditional farmer’s co-op with a strong mandate to protect the land. Their land is composed of floodplains and marshes. The current Steinkel government has fallen from its lofty past and corruption is now common. The stewardship of the land is one of the few traditions that remain, but it is also the justification used for most corrupt policies (farm seizures, high taxes, etc.). The economy is still almost entirely based upon farming, and the people are predominantly human. They are generally considered a quaint, even backwards people by the rest of Asgrim. The Steinkel military is widely disdained, although even their worst critic admits they make excellent use of trained animals and have an intimate knowledge of their own lands.
